Out Of Iraq: (18) Monday 21 August: 6.30pm : Picturehouse@FACT
Directed by: Chris McKim & Eva Orner
One of the most important LGBT+ documentary films of the year, Out of Iraq tells the story of Nayyef and Btoo, two men who fell in love in one of the hardest places in the world to be gay, Ramadi in 2004, with battle raging around them. Covering ten years of their lives, this film is a labour of love and a deeply emotional experience.
The style of the film is very “made-for-tv” but the content is essential viewing. With more than 1500 LGBT+ asylum seekers living in the UK in 2017, it’s important to see a film that documents the tortuous and emotionally draining process people are going through to live in safety. Its a chilling account of what happens to LGBT+ people in some societies is a wake up call to us here that we should support the campaign for equality worldwide
